Grubs can destroy lawns by feeding on the roots of grasses, causing the grass to brown and die. Common weeds such as dandelions, spurge, broadleaf, wild violets and nutsedge are hard to control. While you can spend your weekends digging up weeds, your best defense against weeds is a good defense.

Adding a pre-emergent herbicide in early spring should be your first step to battling these weeds. Treatment should be applied in mid-March when temperatures are above 50 degrees. A second application in the fall will help control over-wintering weeds from germinating.
