Professional Wichita Tree Preservation

Arbor Masters Tree Preservation

Trees are sturdy and durable, but even they need some TLC to remain vigorous and healthy. With Arbor Masters’ tree preservation services, we can help ailing trees recover from damage and hopefully avoid removal. Our tree preservation services for Wichita residents include:

Air Spading

Our air spade can break up compacted soil while avoiding damaging roots. The tool shoots compressed air into the soil to reduce compaction.

Preconstruction Root System Protection

Take preventative measures to protect tree roots during construction projects by marking off the space where a tree’s roots have expanded to.

Root Flare Excavation

A tree’s root flare (the portion where the trunk meets the roots) should always remain uncovered. We can carefully remove soil or mulch to excavate the root flare.

Root Pruning

Root pruning can remove girdling roots and attempt to help a tree recover. Girdling roots restrict the transportation of nutrients from the roots to the canopy and vice versa.

Tree Preservation FAQs

Girdling roots circle a tree’s trunk and constrict it. These roots prevent the tree from transporting nutrients from the roots to the canopy and vice versa. Girdling roots may occur when a tree is in compacted soil.

Root pruning may be able to save your trees from girdling roots, but there are no guarantees. The same roots that are strangling your tree are the ones responsible for providing nutrients and anchoring a tree. Pruning them may save a tree, but it may also remove a primary source of nutrition for your tree. In these instances, a tree will be unstable and unable to secure necessary nutrients, necessitating removal.

Soil naturally has pores where air and water are stored. Roots can quickly expand in regular soil in search of additional nutrients and water. Compacted soil reduces these pores and prevents the roots from developing.

Construction often involves heavy equipment and plenty of foot traffic that can quickly compact soil and harm your trees. A tree’s roots spread out much farther than you think, and digging during construction may sever the roots and leave a tree struggling to get the nutrients it needs to survive.
