Tree Inventories

Our Tree Inventory Services

Many businesses and organizations don’t believe they need a tree inventory because they don’t know how beneficial it can be for their trees. A tree inventory seeks to catalog the trees on a property and give a thorough understanding of any problems or issues they may be facing in the coming years.

Sample Inventories

In a sample inventory, we will look at a random sampling of trees on your property and draw conclusions about the makeup of the rest of the trees. We’ll examine enough trees to draw statistically relevant conclusions.

Partial Inventories

Partial inventories seek to examine and catalog a specific type of tree, such as older trees or particular species at risk of spreading disease. While it won’t provide statistics on the whole forest, it will let you identify problem trees.

Full Inventories

As the name suggests, a full inventory catalogs all the trees in a given area. Many municipalities choose to have a complete inventory of their urban forest and canopy to maintain data and better manage the trees.

Why a Tree Inventory is Critical for Large Properties

Arm Yourself with Knowledge About Your Trees

If you have a small yard with one or two trees, it isn’t difficult to quickly examine them for any defects or problems. When you have a sprawling property with more than 50 trees, this becomes much more difficult.

A tree inventory can identify problems before they become worse. A tree inventory also keeps you informed of the typical problems you might want to look out for, such as older trees that may be nearing the end of their lives or notoriously weak trees that are prone to storm damage.  In short, a tree inventory is a chance to have comprehensive data on your trees and have a plan for caring for them.

“Work Was Excellent, Timely, and Very Professionally Done.”

"This is the firm to use for all your tree needs. I can't stress enough how professional and pleasant they were. I would give them 10 stars if possible. The work was excellent, timely and very professionally done. I can recommend them without any reservations. Other Arborists I interviewed were strictly about money, not the care they could provide."

The Type of Tree Inventory That’s Right for You

If you’ve just purchased a commercial property or have never had a tree inventory done before, you may want to opt for a full inventory that can help you understand everything about the area and its trees.

Partial inventories are perfect when you are worried about a specific problem. For instance, if you know you have several ash trees on your property and read a report of increased emerald ash borer activity, a partial inventory of all ash trees will give you actionable information. Many municipalities choose partial inventories for street trees in the right of way.

A sample inventory is a cost-effective method to get information about your entire property without examining every tree. While you won’t have comprehensive data, you should have enough to plan for most tree work.

Benefits of Having a Professional Conduct a Tree Inventory

There are several benefits to hiring a Certified Arborist to conduct a tree inventory on your property. Some of the most common benefits our customers express to us are:

Understanding Potential Problems

An arborist will be able to catch problems with your trees that may not be immediately obvious. Even if you examine the trees yourself, you likely won’t be able to identify these issues before they appear.

Identifying Invasive Species

Invasive species can pop up on your property without you ever knowing. A tree inventory will identify these invasive trees and provide recommendations for removing them.

Knowing What Your Trees Need

A tree inventory will catch broad trends and problems with your trees. For example, it may determine that multiple trees are deficient in nutrients, necessitating fertilization to improve the soil.

Organizations That Can Benefit from a Tree Inventory

Not sure if you need a tree inventory? Here are some organizations and people that may want to consider at least a sample tree inventory.

HOA Boards

Taking an inventory of all the trees in a homeowners association is worthwhile to ensure there are no bubbling problems that will harm the rest of the neighborhood’s trees.

Large Retail Areas

A large retail area may have several spread-out trees that need identification. These trees will be under more stress due to the increased heat radiated from roads and parking lots.

Municipalities

Small municipalities can hire a tree care company to provide an inventory of their street trees and get a picture of when they may be growing too large or are in danger of falling onto the road.

Apartment Complex Owners

Large apartment complexes often have plenty of trees for shade and aesthetic value. A tree inventory will give you an idea of their condition and if they need any care or maintenance.

Colleges and Schools

The trees on a college or school campus are part of its identity, and regular tree inventories allow you to keep them in good condition to add charm to the campus.

FAQs About Tree Inventories

Tree inventory prices vary depending on the size of the property and the type of inventory you want. A full inventory will cost more than a sample inventory.

While there’s no exact frequency, a tree inventory every 5 to 10 years is recommended to keep updated with any new developments to your trees.

Our team uses ArborPro to track and keep statistics on trees during an inventory.

We offer inventories year-round, though the best time is in the summer with the trees leafed out. Our arborists can still identify trees in the winter by their bark and structure.
