Local Tree Care for Tarrant County's Oldest Settlement
Grapevine holds the distinction of being the oldest settlement in Tarrant County, with roots stretching back to 1844. The city sits where the Grapevine Prairie meets the Eastern Cross Timbers, and that geography shaped everything from the wild mustang grapes that gave the town its name to the post oaks and blackjack oaks that still anchor its neighborhoods today.
Grapevine's canopy is central to the city's character and a major reason homeowners here invest in their properties. That kind of landscape calls for tree care from arborists who actually know the species and the soil.

Local Grapevine Tree Care Resources
Few cities in the metroplex offer the kind of outdoor access Grapevine does, with more than 1,400 acres of parkland, miles of trails like those at Northshore Trail, and 8,000-acre Grapevine Lake just minutes from downtown. That same appreciation for the outdoors is what drives many Grapevine homeowners to invest in the trees on their own property.

Did You Know?
Grapevine's Tree Preservation Ordinance (Section 52 of the Zoning Ordinance) protects trees and vegetation cover across the city. Here's what homeowners should know:
- A Protected Tree is any tree with a caliper of 3 inches or more, measured at 4.5 feet above ground. Removing one without a permit can trigger a replacement fee, and the city may require replanting at 125% of what was removed.
- Owner-occupied single-family homes have some exemptions, but specimen trees, historic trees, and trees in required yard areas are still regulated. If you're planning construction, the city requires protective barriers around preserved trees and a Building Department inspection before any protected trees are removed.
- No certificate of occupancy will be issued until all required replacement trees have been planted or fees have been paid to the city's Tree Reforestation Fund.
- Dead, diseased, or hazardous trees can generally be removed with approval from the Director of Development Services, but it's smart to document the tree's condition before taking action.
Have questions about whether your project needs a permit? Give us a call at (469) 586-5829, and we can walk you through it.
